Timberland's list of herd sire quality males remains as always a short one, considering that our total cria crop each year numbers less than thirty, and in maintaining an extremely strict standard in what we label as “herd sire” potential, we utilize a very critical eye in sorting each young male into the categories of “fiber” vs. “herd sire” potential. Every male that leaves our program as a “herd sire” is a male that we would not hesitate to use should he remain with us. As our AOBA Judges are trained to not single trait in judging these males, neither do we. Sometimes it means that the finest fleeced males will not make the cut, if they are simply fine but perhaps are a bit lacking in shear weight or density of the staple. We learned years ago that the strength and niche of our breeding program is to not to pursue a specific color, but to concentrate on breeding for the fleece parameters of fineness, character of fleece, density of the staple, and staple growth. In the pursuit of these factors, brightness of fleece occurred as a natural consequence. Because one of the strength of our foundation herd sires is the production of solid colored offspring, our crias tend to be solid white, beige, fawn, and occasionally brown, black and grey. Currently featured in this section are two young herd sire prospects that have just completed their first show. Please contact us directly for pricing and availability of these young males and other available males.
